Prof. Dr. Alexandre Mottrie
Prof. Dr. Alexandre Mottrie is head of Urology at the OLV Clinic in Aalst, Belgium. He graduated in 1988 from the School of Medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium and completed his residency in 1994 at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany where he was a Staff Member until 1996. Later, he was a Fellow in Washington University St.-Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. where he improved his laparoscopic skills. Since 1996, he is Urologist in the O.L.V. Hospital in Aalst, Belgium, where he launched the robotic surgery program in 2001. On December 5th 2011, he successfully defended his Ph.D. in the University of Saarland, Homburg-Saar, Germany.
Prof. dr. Mottrie is a pioneer in minimal invasive surgery and robotic surgery. Since 2001, he developed different types of robotic surgery and is one of the most experienced surgeons in the robotic field, with more than 3500 procedures on his track record. In 2010, Prof. dr Mottrie founded the Orsi Academy.
Prof. Dr. Mottrie is very scientifically involved. He has authored multiple scientific papers and organized several international congresses and masterclasses. He is actively involved in congresses by performing live-surgery, giving courses and/or lectures. He is the scientific director of the ERUS-congresses and the Global Congresses on Prostate Cancer (Prosca). Also, he is the founding president of the EAU Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) and the past president of the Belgian Laparoscopic Urology Group (BLUG). He is also founding board member of the Society of Robotic Surgeons (SRS) and is actually its President. He is Guest professor in the Universität des Saarlandes Homburg-Saar (Germany), the Global Robotic Institute Florida Hospital (Orlando, USA) and the University of Ghent (Belgium).
