Full Stack Developer

Orsi Academy is a unique centre for surgical innovation and expertise in minimal invasive (robotic) surgery, specialized in the development, operation and commercialization of practical trainings, congresses, publications and courses for a target group of beginner and/or advanced surgeons, healthcare professionals, the medical devices industry, academics and/or other interested parties. 

Surgical robotic procedures are becoming the standard of care for many surgical procedures. Surgeons need to be trained in an objective manner as to facilitate this massive switch towards robotic surgery. As Europe’s largest training centre for robotic surgery, Orsi is at the forefront of developing curricula to develop these very sought after surgical skills.
 

Orsi Innotech, the innovation department of Orsi, focusses on the scalability (and digitisation) of Orsi’s unique learning methodology and is currently looking for a full stack developer to join the team of (computer vision) engineers. We are currently looking for a junior profile with 1 – 3 years of professional experience to develop the front-end and back-end of both an AI-powered digital assessment & feedback platform (application and website). This platform will be used to automatically assess surgical skills of our trainees.

Job description: tasks & responsibilities

You are interested in or have in-depth knowledge of both back-end and frond-end development of web and/or native applications. You have adequate knowledge of REST API’s and database interaction. You will contribute to the main application codebase. Flexibility and a motivation to work with a broad range of different technologies is a must. In addition, you will maintain the digital platform and the research GPU servers.

You don't have to be an expert yet, but a good dose of common sense and independence is important to start working autonomously. In additional, you should be open to take on tasks in AI-related research (facilitator role). 

You will collaborate with clinicians and other engineers and are willing to stay on top of state-of-the-art developments in the field.

Relevant education, knowledge & experience

For this interesting and challenging position we are in search of a candidate with:

  • Finished Bachelor of Applied Informatics, Master of Science in Informatics or Computer Science
  • Basic knowledge of website front and backend development
    • Familiar with client/server-based architectures
    • Postgres, SQL
    • React
    • Python
    • Docker (Kubernetes is a plus but not required)
  • Working knowledge of (GPU) server management
    • Linux
    • Troubleshooting
    • Driver and OS software maintenance
    • Memory Management
    • User Management
    • Network Configuration
  • Basic knowledge of AV
    • Being able to manage and maintain video and audio recording infrastructure
    • Identifying suited hardware based on user requirements
    • Being able to read up on configuration of the corresponding hardware
    • Familiar with video streaming, media servers

  • Passion for healthcare and more specifically Surgical Data Science
  • Excellent spoken, written and read English
  • Willing to develop specific technical skills and knowledge when required
  • Stay informed of state-of-the-art technical developments and trends in areas of technical expertise
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project)
  • Proven critical thinking and ability to solve routine technical problems in a systematic way through design, testing and analysis, with minimal assistance from senior staff
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate technical information (written & verbal) within technical project team
  • Creative and innovative mindset
