An expertise and innovation centre for robotic & minimally invasive surgery

Orsi Academy was realised partly thanks to financial support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Flemish government (VLAIO) & the Province of East Flanders.

Orsi Academy received 5.8 million euro support from ERDF and 1.45 million from the Flemish government.

The new 5,500 m² infrastructure houses the very latest technologies in robotic surgery.
Because Orsi Academy is among the absolute best in the world, the centre attracts surgeons from all over the world who come to Melle to improve their skills.
Every year, more than 3,500 surgeons from around the world come to Orsi to train in robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

Orsi Academy won Regiostars

In 2019, we were honoured to win the Regiostars!

Our CEO Prof. Dr. Alexandre Mottrie and Werner Van den Stockt, ERDF Management Authority for Flanders, were honoured to receive the 2019 Regiostar Award within the 'Modernising Health Services' category from the hands of Marc Lemaitre, director of DG Regio, and Lambert Van Nistelrooij, former EU MP and chairman of the jury.

What are the Regiostars?

With the Regiostar Awards, the European Commission each year honours EU-funded projects that stand out in terms of demonstrating excellence and innovation.

Grant for image-guided robotic surgery

By installing state-of-the-art imaging technology and upgrading our data captation and storage capacities, we are able to open up to new types of training and R&D, both in the existing fields and in new specialties (f.ex. cardiology, orthopaedy…)

We are very proud to partner with Siemens Healthineers for this innovative project.
