Pig model
- Suitable for trainees with no robotic surgery experience (novices, laparoscopists, etc.):
- Must complete technical training and acquire basic skills (chicken model) beforehand.
- Ideally, training should continue until proficiency level (PBP) or an equivalent standard is reached.
- Surgeons with robotic surgery experience on patients:
- Must have console experience (including simulation and dry lab), not just bedside assistance.
- Only permitted for procedural training requiring a living model with active blood circulation—not for exploring the robot (buttonology).
- Training must last at least 3 hours before a pig can be used.
- Ethical approval is mandatory for any live animal use:
- The process takes a minimum of 40 working days from application to approval.
- Consultation with Orsi staff is required to determine if new approval is needed.
- The use of laboratory animals is justified only when no alternative methods are available.
Chicken model or isolated organ
- Used for learning basic surgical skills.
- Suitable for surgeons with no console experience (in hospitals or during training).
- Only for non-procedural training.
- Can be used for commercial purposes, such as testing the robot.
Human cadaver model
- Used exclusively for procedural training.
- If there is no preference for first-use or re-used cadaver models, Orsi will select based on availability.
- Filming must be requested in advance so Orsi can obtain authorization.

Closing days
On this page, you will find an overview of all Orsi Academy closing dates. On 13.3, 19.6, 18.9 & 16.12 there will only be lab support available until 4PM.
